Croisette style

Croisette style

Cannes Film Festival just ended its latest edition; what’s left is some nostalgia, actually.

But not for the sparkling red carpet we have seen or some charity dinner of great elegance. What we really miss are the good old times of French Riviera. Every time Cannes Film Festival is on, our mind goes back in the days to that enchanted scene, when actors such as Sofia Loren, Alain Delon and Romy Schneider were showing up. That was the time when Brigitte Bardot used to go visit Pablo Picasso’s atelier in Villauris.

These little myths percfectly mix with a certain kind of look that includes the so called breton shirt – originally marinière – that was copied by Gabrielle Chanel from sailors she saw in Dauville, Normandy.

And of course includes the well known slippers that it seems were created on purpose for Brigitte Bardot who wanted a pair of comfortable shoes for herself. She is wearing a pair of them in a picture shot by the sea close to “la Croisette”, with a breton shirt and a pair of tapered trousers.

That outfit has become the epitome of an effortless and timeless French-chic. And it keeps its modernity, today, after 60 years away from the golden age of Cannes.
