The color of summer

White is the timeless, defined and eternal color. In clothing it’s often the smart pass par tout – elegant and stylish while quintessentially basic – that makes your outfit just right. Think of the white shirts or the t-shirts, and think how they adap to a wide variety of occasions. It’s always good to have a few of these pieces in the wardrobe.

And it is not just the everyday use, or rather the use of white that movie star or style icons have made, that built its reputation. There is some magic and some poetry in that color, that was beloved by painters, photographers and filmmakers. Think for example to Peter Greenaway’s movie The Draughtsman’s Contract, where white is juxstaposed to black. White was the favourite option for the so-called Mer

veilleuses, who were the young ladies dressed in light nuances and very light fabrics who dictated the fashion right after the French Revolution.

The etymological origin of the word “white” comes from the Germanic “blank”, which stands for pure and bright.

The muslin cotton, the poplin, the honeycomb but also the broderie anglaise are the versions where white is at its best in the summer. Choose it for your swimsuits, for fresh dresses to wear at the beach and long skirts or suits for the long summer nights.
